There have been so many of you who’ve been e-mailing us, asking about Lisa Loeb’s glasses! Well, I’ve finally gotten down to the heart of the matter and did some research:
Lisa’s current glasses are an Italian brand called “Nouveau Vague", which she bought at a stylists’ showroom (see below). The glasses that Lisa is wearing on the cover of Cake and Pie are vintage frames that she found at a flea market in New York City. Normally she finds cat eyed glasses and other frames at stores around the U.S. She has green octagonal glasses, Square wire glasses with red lenses, and black heavy frames from a vintage store in Austin. She used to wear tortoise shell glasses made by Moda. This model is now discontinued. Just recently she bought three pairs of glasses at Oliver Peoples in Los Angeles. Your best bet is just to look around. Maybe you’ll run into Lisa at a store in your town.
From Lisa:
“The glasses I’m wearing now are some that I bought at a showroom where stylists go to find glasses for their clients appearing in movies. They had such an incredible variety to choose from. Usually I go to glasses stores wherever I’m traveling, just like everyone else. I used to bring a polaroid camera to take pictures of myself in the frames- I can’t see my face when the frames have no perscription, but now I just use a camera phone. Then, unless I really fall in love with a pair of glasses on the spot, I take a look at the photos later in the day, and show friends, and decide whether or not to get the frames. It’s a real investment, so I like making a good decision.”

I also just found out that Lisa’s playing a show here in CT at the Mohegan Sun Casino, so you can bet I’ll be contacting her people for an interview or something! What a dream come true for us here at Girls With Glasses.com!

In other news the site is being switched over to Joomla from Wordpress. It’s been a pain transferring everything over, so please be patient!
We lost money and never received the layout as promised by our previous artist, so I’ve found a new (as well as more reliable) artist named Aaron Farmer (who just happens to be an old friend as well). I’ve seen a few samples of our new mascot and you’re going to love her!
Aside from that we’ve been terribly busy with things, so thanks for hanging in there with us! If you’d like to write, feel free to contact us: girlswithglasses @ gmail . com

Happy 2006 to everyone! I think an update is long overdue, don’t you?
This year marks the 10th ANNIVERSARY of Girls With Glasses.com! Can you believe it? I am so proud to be a part of such an amazing company, and totally excited to know that Darren wanted me to take over the site about 5 years ago. Rumor has it he might be joining forces with me (and yes everyone, this includes all of the older photographs you’ve been asking me about). Keep your eyes peeled here for more information as it develops.
Sadly I’ve been neglecting this site due to a very stressful move. *sigh* But to make it up to everyone I’ve added a slew of new models to the site tonight, so you better check them out and let me know what you think!!
And while I’m at it I’d like to introduce you to our newest model of the month, Stoli;

Stoli is not only an incredibly adorable person, but she also models for No Fauxxx.com as well. For more pictures of Stoli, check out the Gallery section for her set!
So take a look around and drop me a line and tell me what you think. I’m always interested in what you guys have to say, so don’t be shy! If you’ve an idea, a complaint, or even a girl you’d like to recommend to us we’d love to hear what you have to say.
Much Love,
~girl afraid~

Photographer Girl Afraid recently met with Elle for a shoot and the results look a little something like this;

To see more of Elle, you can check out her My Space profile here.
Speaking of My Space, one of our favorite GWG (as well as a strong inspiration for starting the site in the first place) Lisa Loeb is also on the site. Check her page out here!
Well, here we are with our brand new layout! Many thanks to Wchulseiee for all of his help & support. Without you this site wouldn’t be what it is today!!
We also changed servers & are now being hosted by page-zone.
In the coming months you can expect not only more models, but a place where you can buy Vintage frames, get advice from our four-eyed beauties and read exciting interviews with our Girls in Glasses!!
Please be patient with us and we get the galleries and new features up. Can’t wait? Then why don’t you have a peek at our Live Journal Community, or join one of our many groups on Yahoo, Tribe or My Space!
In October 1996, Darren Walker had a vision, and it all started with his love for girls wearing glasses.
Believe it or not, he started this whole craze mostly because of Lisa Loeb!
He saw her video for “Stay” and thought she was the most beautiful woman with glasses he’d ever seen – and still to this day he does not own one of her CDs!
In ‘96, the web was just becoming popular, so Darren went on a quest to find other Lisa Loeb pics (as well as pictures of women with glasses). He didn’t find very many. Darren was also interested in learning how to do web sites, so the light bulb went on… he started a one page site with his AOL account and put up pics of any girls with glasses he could find. He got a huge response from people and the site grew and grew until November of 1997, when he purchased the domain name GirlswithGlasses.com.
By that time Darren was getting rather bored with simply putting up other peoples’ stuff. The light bulb went on again… “Why don’t I take my own pictures? I used to be a good photographer.” Darren asked his ex-wife to do some pictures, then some friends, and finally anyone else who would pose for glasses pics.
By January of 1999, he had enough girls lined up for about 4 months’ worth of photos, so he started featuring a different girl each month.
In October of 1999, the girlswithglasses site went “Gothic” ("I’ve always thought gothic women to be very attractive", says Darren with a smile).
Later that month, Darren received an email from DJ Fernando (who was at the time running the club “Shrine of Lilith“), who was interested in modeling for the site. Although Darren never had the chance to photograph Fernando, he did allow Darren to set up a model search at Shrine of Lilith in November, and they had a great turn out. “I met some of the nicest people there", remembers Darren, including the new owner of the site, Girl Afraid (dani).
In November and December, Darren received a few complaints about too many gothic women on the Girls with Glasses site, so he decided to create a new site and use it as his portfolio, featuring his exclusive work on it.
TwistedLens was born January 1st of 2000.
Since it opened up, all I got was great responses from people… thanks to all of you on my feedback page who said nice things about my work and the models
GirlsWithGlasses has been mentioned on Maxim Magazine and ABC News (online)!
